Professional Program:

Hi all,

To allow our members better communicating with others who share the same technical background, NWCHP decide to form some SIGs (special interest groups).  By doing it, we believe we can benefit our member in the following areas:

  1. Making friends with same technical background.
  2. Chance to learn different technology in your working area, e.g. in database SIG, a SQL Server DBA can learn how to do the same job in Oracle from an Oracle DBA, and vice versa.
  3. Exchange some helping tips in your daily work.
  4. Increase the possibility of your job searching.
  5. Considering there are a lot of Microsoft guys, it’s good chance for “software maker meets software user”.
  6. Since the tech talk and presentation will be hold insight group of ‘well-knowing-it’ people.  So the talk will be easy to prepare, and be able to go in depth.
  7. Again, since the event can be hold in small group of people, it’s very easy to find place to host it.

The following are the rough plan about how we operate this SIG project.  Please provide your comments and suggestions.

SIGs we can have:

  1. Database technology SIG.
  2. Computer operating system technology SIG - Unix, Windows, Linux, etc.
  3. Programming language SIG – C/C++, Java, C#, etc.
  4. Bio-Tech and Bio-Pharm SIG.
  5. Telecommunication SIG.
  6. Accounting SIG.
  7. Investment SIG.
  8. Project management SIG.
  9. Developing business in China SIG.
  10. More …

SIG should have:

  1. A coordinator
  2. 5 to 20 people
  3. People can involve any SIG (as many as they want).

Actives:

  1. Non-regular group activity insight SIG, including:

·        Chat about technology.

·        Little tech presentation.

·        Party …J.

  1. Bi-month, we have an event to have all member of all SIGs in one place, so people can go around to see what other SIG doing.
  2. If the presentation insight SIG goes well, he/she may want to present it to whole NWCHP.

I, Jinghao Liu, would like to coordinate the whole SIG project (If anyone like to perform this job with me or think she/he can do better than me, let NWCHP board or me knowJ).  Please send email at nwchp@nwchp.org for anything regarding it.  We will have an email list for whole SIG project, and couple email lists for each SIG respectively.

We need enthusiastic person to be our coordinator for each SIG.  If you like to be the ‘ONE’ for the SIG listed above or any new SIG you think there are people interested to.  Just contact me directly.  I will work with you to send an SIG opening announcement to all NWCHP members and create the email list.  And that, you are on your own.

Thanks

Jinghao Liu, the coordinator of NWCHP SIG project.
