Keynote speech:

We're honored to have the chance to hear from experienced layers from Davis Wright Tremaine, LLP (DWT).  DWT is the first US law firm approved by China's Ministry of Justice to set up an office in Shanghai, China.  Since 1994, DWT has assisted US companies, including many Fortune 500 companies, in their investment projects in China.  Our speakers include Mr. Cai Ron Wei,  蔡 榮 偉,  its Shanghai partner and Mr. Jerry Zhu 祝 嘉 漢, its founder for China operations and Seattle partner.  Mr. Cai is one of NWCHP’s founders and is managing NWCHP Shanghai chapter.   In their speech, they will discuss current and future professional and business opportunities, growing areas and economical cycles (including real estate market), and the best channels to join foreign companies operating in China.  They will also talk about important issues related to starting a business in China.  They will be flying in to Seattle for this banquet and bring us the most up to date information from China.  If you have any question for these speakers, please submit them to nwchp@nwchp.org before Jan. 30th, so that they will have very comprehensive answers for you at the banquet.

here are some questions from our members:

What are the incentive programs for Chinese to return China to either find a job or to start a business? How easy it is to obtain them?

Where can they get that information? What's the difference in terms of personal and corporate tax laws between China and US? What are other major taxes one needs to be aware of?

Could you comment on the software industry and IT industry in China? What’s the current situation?

What do you think are the most serious problems that hinder the growth of the software industry?

What kind of IT professionals is needed by the foreign companies in China? In particular, overseas Chinese IT professionals.

It seems that returning overseas Chinese professionals are less popular than before. Can you comment on this?

In light of WTO membership and more openness, could you comment on China’s development of the next 5, 10 years? Would returning overseas Chinese professionals play a key role in this?

How is the venture or government investment environment in China? If one is interested in starting a software company in China, what are the steps to get funded? What can one expect? Anything one needs to pay special attention to?

What is the outlook of real estate market in China? Which areas and what kind of properties have the highest growth potential?

What is the cost of living like in China? What kind of salary range should a returning engineer expect? Should one buy or should one rent?
